They Went OFF to Fight
Here I am my bag in hand, my back to the seas and my eyes to my lovers sorrow.
Tears flowing down flushed skin, lips quivering she tries to utter words please stay.
One final goodbye I try to say except it doesnt leave my mouth,
I look down at hands trembling as she grasps the red, white and blue.
These are the colors I am proud to fight for and colors that I might die for,
yet these colors are embracing my heartache and catch the tears of my true love.
She recognizes that I must go but so deeply she wants me to stay
I would give anything to make all better and stay in her arms.
As we hold each other there at ships waiting,
my thoughts drift to my friends in hells grasp combating the broken cross.
Her squeeze tightens, like she hears my thoughts of duty.
Echoing in my ear a sound gestures time to depart, I must go
but I must stay.
I step back from heavens gates ready to walk into hells fire,
I raise her chin to behold eyes of splendor.
Sweeping wet pearls from her cheek I try to say my valediction,
not knowing if I will ever be back in her grace.
I pull my lips together and gently honor lips of my devoted a kiss.
From actions of love a smile of calmness beholds her lovely face.
That moment I knew I would be back and to live in happiness by her side.
Placing a last kiss to her brow, I turn away to face destiny's edge.
